We are pleased to announce that we have teamed up with the Maryland Farm Bureau and Perdue Farms to launch Savefarmfamilies.org, a group of agriculture interests who have come together to raise much-needed funds for the legal defense of a Berlin, Maryland farm family involved in a protracted and crippling lawsuit with the New York-based Waterkeeper Alliance since March 2010. To learn more about the Hudson lawsuit or Savefarmfamilies.org please visit www.savefarmfamilies.org. Thank you to all that supported the Alan & Kristin Hudson legal defense fundraisers. Your support has enabled us to raise over $25,000 to put toward the $100,000+ of legal bills incurred by the Hudson’s to defend themselves against the Waterkeeper Alliance. The next Hudson benefit will be a Chicken and Dumpling Dinner held at Showell Volunteer Fire Co. on Saturday January 21st at 6:00pm. Tickets are $25. Contact James Adkins at adkins@udel.edu for more information or tickets.

Wicomico Young Farmers and Ranchers is a non-profit organization comprised of Wicomico residents interested in production, business and many other aspects of agriculture. As a sub-committee of Wicomico Farm Bureau, Young Farmers serves as a stepping stone for younger members to learn about agriculture, develop leadership skills, and provide service to the community. Each year Wicomico Young Farmers offers two $1,000 scholarships to Wicomico County residents interested in pursuing a degree in an agricultural field. Our hope is to encourage local students to continue the strong agricultural heritage of our county. In addition to scholarships, Young Farmers also financially supports the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF) Ag Classroom trailer visits to local elementary schools and is a charter member of SaveFarmFamilies.org.
